About Aussie Day in Shizuoka
The aim of this event is to build a partnership of education, sports, economy, culture, and friendship between Australia and Shizuoka in Japan.
"Aussie Day" is the first-ever festival of its kind in Japan, featuring the themes of the Australian Football League (AFL), Australian cuisine, and Australian culture. The event held this November at the Higashi-Shizuoka Art and Sports Park, will offer an opportunity to experience AFL. Attendees can also enjoy a festive atmosphere with numerous food stalls serving authentic Australian cuisine.
In the second phase of the event in March 2024, matches played by both AFL teams and another league called Rugby Sevens will be held at the Kusanagi Sports Complex. Through this event, we aim to nurture friendship and to build a partnership of education, sports, economy, and culture between Australia and Shizuoka in Japan.
We look forward to having all those who love Australia to join us.
Over these two days, let's Enjoy Australian Culture together.

U-19 National Club Youth Championship of Rugby Sevens.
Rugby Sevens is an exciting Olympic sport known for its speed, individual skills, and easy-to-understand gameplay.
In Rugby Sevens, matches are played on a field designed for 15 rugby players. Despite having only 7 players on each team, the game is played on a wide field, creating a dynamic playing environment where the ball moves swiftly, showcasing fluid gameplay. Rugby Sevens (both men's and women's) is an official Olympic sport. Matches last for approximately 14 minutes, allowing fans to enjoy multiple games in a single day.
Australian Football League Experience
The Australian Football League (AFL) is one of the most popular sports in Australia.
Australian Football League (AFL) combines the best elements of popular ball sports like soccer (running, kicking), rugby (tackling, ball usage), basketball (dribbling, catching), and volleyball (jumping). The AFL Grand Final is the largest domestic sports event in Australia, attracting over 90,000 attendees every year.
Blind Rugby Experience Session
There will be a Blind Rugby Experience Session!
Since players primarily have low vision (partial sight), they find it challenging to judge the distance between themselves, the ball, and other players. To compensate, players communicate by calling out to each other and clapping hands to indicate their positions, fostering communication and teamwork on the field.
There will be Australian cuisine stalls as part of the festivities.
